Storm sewer and roadway improvements continue near Grand Ave.

The contractor removed the existing pavement, continued the storm sewer installation, excavated for the new roadway depth, and installed new aggregate road base along the west side along the west side of Nippersink Boulevard, north of Grand Avenue.

Next week, weather permitting, the contractor plans to complete the proposed storm sewer installation and frame and pour the proposed curb & gutter along the west side of Nippersink Boulevard near Grand Avenue.

New traffic and parking modifications

Traffic has been modified to one-way southbound along the west side of Nippersink Boulevard between Grand Avenue and Oak Street. Access to local businesses is currently accessible from southbound traffic only. In addition, some Metra commuter parking areas have been modified to accommodate the construction operations as noted in the image above.

Northbound Nippersink Boulevard through traffic will utilize the posted detour of Grand Avenue to Forest Avenue to Oak Street to access southbound Nippersink Boulevard as previously established.

New asphalt pavement gets installed and traffic staging is modified

The contractor continued the storm sewer installation along the east side of Nippersink Boulevard, and fine graded the aggregate base on the west side of Nippersink Boulevard. Then they paved the first layer of new asphalt pavement along the west side of Nippersink Boulevard and moved the traffic to this section of the road in a southbound only configuration. Northbound traffic should utilize the posted detour of Grand Avenue to Forest Avenue to Oak Street to access southbound Nippersink Boulevard.

Next week, weather permitting, the contractor plans to continue the proposed storm sewer installation and remove the existing pavement along the east side of Nippersink Boulevard.

Traffic Pattern Update

In order to begin Stage 1B of the utility and roadway improvements proposed for Nippersink Boulevard between Grand Avenue and Oak Street, the contractor implemented an updated traffic pattern yesterday.

Traffic has been modified to one-way southbound along the west side of Nippersink Boulevard between Grand Avenue and Oak Street. Access to local businesses such as Tire Depot, Biglow & Company Insurance, Prunella’s Flower Shoppe, and Shee Goo Rolled Ice Cream are currently accessible from southbound traffic only. 

Northbound Nippersink Boulevard through traffic will utilize the posted detour of Grand Avenue to Forest Avenue to Oak Street to access southbound Nippersink Boulevard as previously established.

Motorists should continue to expect minor delays along Nippersink Boulevard as progress continues. As always, please be alert when traveling through the work zones.

New curb & gutter gets installed

The contractor completed the excavation and installation of the new aggregate base for the roadway improvements along the west side of Nippersink Boulevard this week. They also completed framing and pouring the new concrete curb & gutter along the west side of Nippersink Boulevard.

Next week, weather permitting, the contractor plans to continue the proposed storm sewer installation in locations on the east side of Nippersink Boulevard, and possibly pave the first layer of the new asphalt pavement along the west side of Nippersink Boulevard.

The contractor completed the initial stage of storm sewer installation and began excavation and aggregate base installation for the roadway improvements along the west side of Nippersink Boulevard this week. Nicor Gas and ComEd also worked on their utility services in the area.

Next week, weather permitting, the contractor plans to continue the proposed roadway excavation and possibly frame and pour the proposed curb & gutter along the west side of Nippersink Boulevard.

Construction began this week along Nippersink Boulevard with the contractor setting up the traffic control signs and establishing the northbound detour. The contractor also completed the pavement removal along the west side of Nippersink Boulevard, from Oak Street to Ernest Avenue.

Next, week, weather permitting, the contractor plans to deliver materials to the jobsite, saw cutting sections to be removed, and beginning installation of the proposed storm sewer improvements.
